The numbers are in – and JAC’s T9 PHEV Ute is delivering.
True to the same “Tested By Kiwis, For Kiwis” philosophy behind the Diesel T9, JAC’s New Zealand team have put the T9 PHEV through its paces across real Kiwi terrain – tarmac, back roads, towing, hauling, and just about everything in between. Testing is now almost complete, and JAC is ready to share key details leading up to the full reveal at Fieldays this June, where JAC returns as Vehicle Sponsor.
The headline figures: 3.5T towing, 360kW of power, and 1,005km^ (NEDC) of combined range. For Kiwi ute owners who are looking for a plug-in hybrid ute that will do the job, these numbers matter. But it’s just the start.
With more than 60 years building trucks and commercial vehicles, JAC knows exactly what a working ute needs to deliver. JAC have taken their proven Ute platform and enhanced it, applying their EV expertise from the ground up – resulting in a PHEV designed to be a ute first and foremost.
On the road, the T9 PHEV feels like a performance ute, rather than a hybrid. A 4 speed DHT transmission with low gear ratios and high torque at low speeds, dual electric motors, and an intelligent three-way differential locking system combine to deliver strong, predictable performance. Whether hauling loads, towing trailers or cruising, it is built to do the job.
Safety is just as strong. The T9 PHEV has earned a 5 Star ANCAP rating, with a score that positions it as New Zealand’s safest hybrid ute.
As the official Vehicle Sponsor of Fieldays, JAC will pull the covers off the T9 PHEV on 10 June – full specs, and pricing. If you’ve been watching since the bold orange prototype turned heads at Fieldays 2025, your patience is about to pay off.
Andrew Craw, General Manager of JAC New Zealand, says JAC’s real-world kiwi testing is proving to be impressive. The local Kiwi team are determined to ensure the T9 PHEV is refined for our part of the world, with fine tuning and calibration adjustments based on feedback and testing already underway at the factory before vehicles go into production
“There isn’t long to wait now and we can’t wait to share some of our local testing and show what the T9 PHEV is made of at Fieldays, with pre-sales opening from 10 June”.
Registrations of interest are opening imminently at www.jac.co.nz/phev. Those registered will be among the first to receive full specifications and pricing.
