From our beginnings in Hamilton in 1931 to a growing network of dealerships across Auckland and Waikato, Winger Motors has been part of New Zealand's motoring story for more than 90 years.

Today, Winger Motors represents 18 automotive brands across 12 locations, helping Kiwi drivers find vehicles to suit a wide range of lifestyles, budgets and driving needs.

While the vehicles, technology and way people shop for cars have changed considerably over the decades, our focus remains much the same: looking after our customers and helping them find the right vehicle for the road ahead.

From Hamilton Beginnings to a Growing Dealership Network

The Winger Motors story began in Hamilton in 1931.

More than nine decades later, Winger has grown into a family-owned automotive dealership group with locations throughout Auckland and Waikato.

For many New Zealanders, the Winger name has long been associated with Subaru and Suzuki. Both brands remain an important part of our history, but the Winger network has grown considerably over the years.

Today, we represent 18 automotive brands, providing everything from everyday passenger vehicles and SUVs to hybrids, electric vehicles, performance cars and commercial vehicles.

That variety allows our teams to help customers compare different brands and technologies and find a vehicle that genuinely suits the way they drive.

Generations of Winger Customers

One of the things we’re proudest of is the number of customers who continue to return to Winger.

Across our dealerships, it’s not unusual to meet customers whose parents or grandparents purchased vehicles from Winger and who are now returning with the next generation of their family.

Those relationships are an important part of our history and continue to shape how we approach the customer experience today.

Whether you’re buying your first car, upgrading the family vehicle, moving into an EV or hybrid, purchasing a commercial vehicle or simply bringing your current vehicle in for a service, our goal is to make the experience straightforward and enjoyable.

More Than Just Buying a Car

Finding the right vehicle is only one part of vehicle ownership.

Across the Winger Motors network, our customers have access to a range of automotive services, including vehicle servicing, parts, finance and insurance, tyres and vehicle support.

Behind the showrooms is a significant operation designed to keep customers and their vehicles moving.

Our purpose-built Penrose Customer Service Centre, for example, features 19 service bays with vehicle hoists, an automatic car wash, corner-weight scales and an onsite TyreLAND.

Across our service centres in North Shore, West Auckland, Penrose, Pukekohe and Hamilton, more than 50 factory-trained technicians work on customer vehicles, supported by service advisors, parts specialists and tyre teams.

From routine servicing and WOFs through to diagnostics and more complex repairs, these teams are an important part of the Winger Motors network.

Automotive History in Hamilton

Hamilton isn’t simply another Winger location – it’s where our story began.

Alongside our dealerships, Winger’s Hamilton operations include additional automotive services such as panel and paint, wheel repair and rental vehicles.

Hamilton is also home to a small collection celebrating an important part of New Zealand’s Subaru history.

The collection includes a New Zealand-new 1966 Subaru 360, Possum Bourne’s first Subaru Leone rally car and a Subaru Impreza 22B.

For motoring enthusiasts, these vehicles provide a glimpse into both Subaru’s history in New Zealand and Winger’s long-standing connection with the brand.

Helping Customers Find the Right Vehicle

The way New Zealanders shop for vehicles has changed significantly.

Most customers now begin their search online, comparing models, specifications, pricing and reviews before ever stepping into a dealership.

Our website makes it easier to explore new and used vehicles, compare available stock and research different options before visiting us.

But there is still one part of buying a vehicle that is difficult to replicate online: getting behind the wheel.

A test drive gives you the opportunity to experience how a vehicle feels in the real world. We often encourage customers to drive familiar roads where possible – whether that’s part of the daily commute, the school run or the roads they regularly travel.

It’s often the easiest way to discover whether a vehicle genuinely fits your lifestyle.

Supporting the Next Generation of Vehicles

The automotive industry continues to change rapidly.

Electric vehicles, hybrids, new vehicle technology and emerging automotive brands are giving New Zealand drivers more choice than ever before.

Winger Motors has continued to evolve alongside those changes, introducing new brands, investing in facilities and equipment, and supporting our teams with the training required for increasingly advanced vehicles.

While the technology continues to evolve, what customers need from us remains remarkably consistent: good advice, genuine choice and support throughout vehicle ownership.

Looking Ahead at Winger Motors

After more than 90 years in New Zealand motoring, we’re proud of where Winger Motors has come from – but we’re equally focused on what’s ahead.

That means continuing to invest in our dealerships and service facilities, exploring new locations and brands, embracing new vehicle technologies and finding better ways for customers to interact with us both online and in person.

Cars have changed enormously since Winger first opened its doors in Hamilton in 1931, and they’ll continue to change.

Our commitment to the people driving them remains the same.

With you. Drive after drive.
